PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
Hello everyone…..hope you had a Happy
Easter and Passover.
I am extremely proud to report that after
two shows this year, our January Silver
Spurs Winter Slide held in Queen Creek, and
our March Spring Stampede show held at
WestWorld, that our entries are up
substantially. We are meeting our budgets
and are on financially solid ground for our
upcoming events.
Our next show will be the AzRHA Mother’s Day
Slide at WestWorld on May 9-13th. We will
have a lot of exciting events and awards at
this show… Sami Fine Jewelry and Unique
Gifts has donated beautiful custom made
jewelry for our Circuit Awards!! The special
events include a dog race put on by the
AzRHA Youth Club; our Annual Top Chef
Progressive Barn Party (which is always a
blast!!); and this year, a trolley ride to
enjoy dinner at our newest sponsor, KO’s
American Bar & Grill on Friday evening May
11th. The restaurant is close to WestWorld
and located on Northsight Blvd. in
Scottsdale.
Also, the AzRHA Mother’s Day Slide will have
a special Silent Auction to raise funds for
my daughter Deni Austin, who is battling
Brain Cancer. I personally want to thank
everyone who has helped organize this event
and to those who have donated items. (Anyone
interested in donating to this auction, can
contact Andi Paul 480-215-9722).
Our Fall shows will be held at WestWorld in
September and November and these will both
be two day shows (new this year)!!
A Special thank you to Nancy Elton and Milan
Eaton for maintaining the AzRHA website and
facebook pages. They work hard to keep our
membership up-to-date on our events and
news. They are also working hard on a new
data base with our membership information.
This will help us keep track of important
information now, and in the future.
In closing, I would like to thank the entire
AzRHA Board of Directors for volunteering,
and for their hard work to help make the
future look bright for the Reining Horse in
Arizona. We would love your help and input…
If you would like to get involved in our
great club, contact any one of us and check
out our website at www.azrha.com.
Sincerely,
Dave Belson
From days long ago when cowboys would casually compete with
each other to determine whose
horse was a better, more willing
partner, the sport of Reining
has exploded into a
multi-million dollar industry
world-wide. Reining is the only
western discipline to be
recognized by the IFE and it was
a featured event in the 2010
World Equestrian Games in
Kentucky. If you have not seen a
Reining Horse run his pattern,
you are missing out! Around the
world, the premier Reining
events are drawing larger and
larger crowds. This is partly
due to the excitement that
Reining provides for the
participant and spectator alike.
Reining is a judged event requiring competitors to complete
one of 12 approved patterns in
an arena. These precise patterns
include small slow circles,
large fast circles, flying lead
changes, roll backs, 360 degree
spins done in place, and “the
hallmark” of the reining horse,
the exciting sliding stops.
Often called the "Dressage" of
Western events, Reining is the
ultimate blend of horse and
rider, combining speed and
maneuverability through this
series of intricate patterns.
Reining requires the horse to be
responsive and completely in
tune with its rider. Cues and
commands should not be easily
visible. The reining pattern is
judged based on how willfully
guided the horse responds and
its ability to perform the
required movements.
The Arizona Reining Horse
Association (AzRHA) was founded
in 1984 as an Affiliate of the
National Reining Horse
Association
(NRHA). The AzRHA is a
not-for-profit organization
committed to promoting and
growing the sport of Reining in
the state of Arizona and
beyond. The AzRHA adheres to
the rules and regulations of the
NRHA and provides a forum for
exhibitors, breeders, and anyone
interested in the sport of
Reining.
THE AzRHA ANNUAL MEETING
will be held during
the November Autumn Slide
Show.
Plan on attending this quick
meeting for an
update about our Non-Profit
Organization.
All AzRHA Members are encouraged
to attend.
